Chinese dramas have been adapted to movies for a long time, and adaptation is one of the important ways of movie creation. In recent years, Intellectual Property (IP) films have attracted much attention, especially drama IP films which have become a hot commodity in the Chinese film market. This paper composes and discusses the rise and phenomenon of drama IP movies in China and analyses its influence and role on the development of this genre. Taking two representative works of Mahua FunAge as examples: Charlotte's Trouble and Donkey's Water, this paper discusses the pros and cons of both film adaptations, while also analyses and summarizes the experiences and laws in the adaptations of these drama IP movies so to promote the healthy development of the creation of Chinese drama IP movies.
