The Impact of College Students’ Self-reflection and Self-clarity on Their Career Hope
Abstract
Due to the frequent use of the misanthropic generations for the youth nowadays, this research is to examine college students’ career hope and its relationship with self-reflection and self-clarity, two concepts closely related to young’s career development. The pilot test was to construct the study inventory and the data of 108 college students was used for the development of the study inventory. There were 477 participants completed the study inventory and 447 of them were included in the study analyses. The ANOVA were employed to detect the differences among the demographic variables, and Pearson correlation analysis was to confirm the relationship among the study variables (i.e., self-reflection, self-clarity, and career hope). The mediation effects were by the SEM path analysis. This study found:
1. The career hope of college students in Taiwan is negatively skewed, which indicates they may have high career hope for the future.
2. Age is the only demographic variable which has significant impact on the study variables. It is positively correlated to self-reflection, self-clarity and career hope, suggesting that all three variables increase as the ages increase.
3. Self-reflection, self-clarity and career hope have medium to high positive correlations with each other.
4. Self-reflection and self-clarity can directly or indirectly significantly affect career hope.
5. Self-clarity partially mediates the relationship between self-reflection (ability) and career hope; it completely mediates the impact of self-reflection (attitude) on career hope.
Suggestions were made accordingly.
Keywords: self-reflection, self-clarity, career hope, college student
