第五届新结构经济学专题研讨会(冬令营)圆满结束

2019年12月15-18日,北京大学新结构经济学研究院成功举办第五届新结构经济学专题研讨会(冬令营)。新结构经济学冬令营是一年一度的新结构经济学学术思想盛宴,旨在全面展示新结构经济学理论体系,最新学术研究、政策实践和数据库建设的成果,集结海内外的著名经济学家和优秀青年学者共同交流、拓展新结构经济学,深化新结构经济学研究。

第六届新结构经济学国际研讨会圆满结束

8月9-11日,为期三天的第六届新结构经济学国际会议在朗润园成功举行。本次会议主题为“经济发展和发展经济学:过去70年的经验”,包括“中等收入陷阱”、“中国宏观发展”、“技术和收入分配”、“政府在经济发展中的作用”、“金融与发展”五个专题会和围绕“主流发展理论和政策过去、现在与未来发展”主题的两场圆桌讨论会,吸引来自国内外高校的40多位学者参会。

大陆的发展是全体中国人民包括台湾同胞的最大机遇。以我为例,世界银行首席经济学家被认为是经济学家在全世界的最高职位,历来由美国、欧洲大师级的经济学家担任,得益于祖国大陆的发展所带来的水涨船高,我得以在2008年成为第一位担任此要职的发展中国家经济学家。世界经济中心必然是世界的政治、经济、金融、科技、文化中心,引领世界的大政治家、大企业家、大学者辈出的中心。我20多岁时来到大陆,此后40多年,亲历和见证了祖国大陆的快速发展,国际影响力的迅速提升,主导了世界格局的演变。作为已到了从心所欲而不逾矩的过来者,今天我想和来自家乡的年轻一代分享一句内心的话,不论你们今后从事什么职业,到大陆来,抓住这个千载难逢的机遇,你们不仅可以成就自己的一番事业,而且,当你们到了我现在这个年纪的时候,你们将目睹中华民族伟大复兴的最终实现,并且能够自豪地说,在民族复兴的伟业中,有我的一份贡献。 演讲人: Terry Cheung This paper argues that public education policies, which affect schooling years and education quality, are important to understand sectoral employment. We build a multi-sector general equilibrium heterogeneous-agent life-cycle model, which features both education investment, in terms of schooling years and expenditure, and sectoral employment choices. Disciplining the stock of human capital using schooling years and return of education data, we perform counterfactual experiments and show that eliminating public education policies would increase agricultural employment by 35% while endowing a developing country with U.S. public education policies would reduce the agricultural employment by 21% and the cross-country income difference by 29%. 演讲人: Luciano Pietronero Economic Fitness and Complexity (EFC) is the recent economic discipline and methodology which makes use and develops the modern techniques of data analysis to build economic models based on a scientific methodology inspired by the science of Complex Systems with special attention to quantitative tests to provide a sound scientific framework. It consists of a data based and bottom up approach that considers specific and concrete problems without economic ideologies and it acquires information from the previous growth data of all countries with methods of Complex Networks, Algorithms and Machine Learning. Its main characteristics are the scientific rigor, the precision in the analysis and in the forecasting, transparency and adaptability. The new Fitness algorithm overcomes the conceptual and practical problems of the early attempts in this field and sets the basis for a scientific, testable and successful implementation of the field of Economic Complexity in a broad perspective. According to Bloomberg Views: “New research has demonstrated that the "fitness" technique systematically outperforms standard methods, despite requiring much less data”.
