Since updating to current windows (as the system demanded) my surface pro has more and more problems and I am not able to roll it back the previous form of windows. For any customers reading, DO NOT buy microsoft laptops. This is not my first post but I will never buy microsoft products again. It does not recognize simple USB drives, I cannot even make a google search without it defaulting to YAHOO on chrome despite my settings that chrome is my default search engine. This happens even from the google domain. I literally can't even make a google search with this garbage laptop. Sue microsoft for being scammers. I should not have to take my laptop to someone else just to put music on my phone but here I am. Either give me a voucher to fix this or I will sue and return my laptop. It is obviously garbage that I cannot use for school. As a college student this really isn't funny, I got robbed and spit on by Microsoft. This is not my first post but it just keeps getting worse and y'all are 0 help. I am aware that this laptop is set by you idiots to update to windows 11 that it does not support. Give me store credit to fix this or I'm returning and leaving relevant reviews. I can't even perform the process myself since my computer won't even recognize a drive because Microsoft set it up for failure. Im not stupid and I will return this laptop if not resolved in one week

Melody,

Are you sure this is a Surface Pro 3 and not a Surface LAPTOP 3? The PRO 3 would never have updated to Windows 11 on its own. (And the agent in your original thread SHOULD have moved the conversation here to Surface or at least asked you to verify). Please run the Surface App and tell us what model Surface you have.

The search behavior you describe sounds like malware/virus type behavior. Or a browser hijack. This would not be caused by Microsoft or Windows.

I'm not sure if you really want help with your issues or if you just want to vent your frustration. If you continue to post with so much anger, I won't attempt to assist you further (I'm a volunteer and a customer ike you).

I don't know where you are geographically, but if in the US, a Best Buy store might be able to assist you in reinstalling Windows and resolving malware issues, etc. Find a participating Best Buy Service Center for in-person support in the US (microsoft.com)

I'm an unpaid volunteer and do not work for Microsoft. If you want background on what a Microsoft MVP is, see https://mvp.microsoft.com/en-us/Overview and for Volunteer Moderators see https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/page/faq#faqWhosWho1

(Disclaimer: I don't work for Microsoft at all; I'm simply a Surface user.)

> Since updating to current windows (as the system demanded)

... I assume you're referring to Windows 11. Nobody forces you to upgrade, particularly not on a device that doesn't meet the minimum specs for Windows 11 (8th-gen CPU, etc.). You can continue to use Windows 10 as long as you want. That will officially be supported by Microsoft till October 2025, so another three years.

> ...and I am not able to roll it back the previous form of windows.

Yes, you can. Simply download the Windows 10 recovery image for your device at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surface-recovery-image and start fresh with Windows 10, which might be a good idea anyway considering your next point.

This has nothing to do with your Surface Pro device. Microsoft doesn't care which search engine you use. And if it did, why on earth would they redirect you to Yahoo and not Bing, which is their own search engine. Could it be there's some malware on your device that redirects you to Yahoo? Another reason to start fresh with the official Windows 10 recovery image.

Good luck with that. The Surface Pro 3 was released in June 2014 (more than eight years ago!) and is long past its End of Servicing date (November 13, 2021), so the device hasn't been supported for just about a year now. All this is totally in line with common practice in the industry.

Wait, I thought you said you were done buying any more Microsoft products...? :-)

Again, good luck with that.

That makes no sense. Why would Microsoft set up their device "for failure" as you put it?

Look, we all understand it's frustrating when something stops working as expected and it's cathartic to post a message like this in a forum, but do you honestly think that's going to get you anywhere?
In this case, the best thing to do is simply reinstall Windows 10 and start fresh. (Don't forget to get the latest drivers from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=38826 ). Chances are things will work much better again.

Good luck!

I see Barb beat me to it...! :-)

I was also wondering if this is about Surface Laptop 3 rather than a Surface Pro 3.

hello Barb. I have a very well taken care of Surface Pro. After a Windows update, screen touch stopped working in some places and type cover isn't detected any longer. MS support concluded it was a hardware issue and since it's a discontinued product I'm screwed and should buy a new device. I fortunately didn't didn't stop searching for a solution and I'm happy to say that the screen is now working perfectly. Type cover still isn't being detected though.

I've downloaded drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled them, etc and it's still not working. I've tried using a new typecover and that didn't work either.

I suspect it's a software issue caused by MS' Windows update. This is negligence on their part... like software-executed planned obsolescence.

Do you think you can help me fix this issue?

Thank you
