This talk will introduce students how to write an academic research paper and do an oral presentation. It will consist of an overview of features in academic English and the framework of each part of an academic research paper, including Introduction, Method, Results, and Discussion. Students will also learn how to make an oral presentation of their research in a clear and professional manner.

Shih-Chieh Chien teaches in the Academic Writing Education Center at National Taiwan University. He received his Doctor of Philosophy in Second Language Education at the University of Cambridge, Master of Education in Language and Literacy at Harvard University, and Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Languages and Literatures at National Taiwan University. His research interests include writing strategy use, contrastive/intercultural rhetoric, and composition pedagogical guides for writing teachers. His work appears in several international journals, such as Journal of English for Academic Purposes, English for Specific Purposes, Foreign Language Annals, Research in the Teaching of English, Ethics & Behavior, Asia Pacific Journal of Education, Asia Pacific Education Review, and The Asia-Pacific Education Researcher.
