This is an issue I've noticed since "the beginning of time"...my earliest memory of becoming a collector of my favorite TrueType fonts. I was wondering if anyone here is familiar with the issue and maybe a fix.

THE ISSUE: Countless TrueType fonts I've seen -- their icon thumbnails display in Greek characters. See included image here:

This is where my OCD comes in. As a font collector, I like to be able to see the font sample in the thumbnail. Here, it doesn't appear as it should. This is the case with thousands of fonts I've seen across the web. The font still works of course, but it frustrates me that the sample doesn't view accordingly.

Is anyone familiar with this issue? Are there any Microsoft reps that are familiar with the issue? Has anyone seen this and might you know of a fix? Any answers would make my life a whole lot easier. Thanks in advance! :)

We have attempted to recreate your reported concern by installing some TrueType fonts on our Windows 7 and it shows perfectly fine on our end.

Upon further checking, it seems that this can also be caused by a Region and Language setting if you have set the format to Greek. Kindly do the steps below to set the correct format for your Region and Language setting:

Go to Control Panel .

Set View by to Large icons or Small icons .

Click Region and Language .

Under the Formats tab, click the drop-down selection under Format and set it to English.

Once done with the steps provided above, kindly check and confirm if the TrueType fonts are showing the thumbnails properly.

To edit "Fonts" open internet options,press Fonts button the language-script box should read

Latin-based,the "Webpage Font" should read "Times new Roman" the Plain Text" should read

Courier new,both bottom displays should say "Latin"

Thank you both for your prompt response. My Region is set to English, by default, and so are the Fonts settings you suggested. Virfranz Man, the issue is not with the font itself, but the font thumbnail icon . I have had this issue since the Windows 98 days, and I've made no unorthodox changes to my operating system or font files whatsoever.

The icon should show "ABG" in its actual typeface, but it shows in Greek letters, as shown here:

As presented, the Comic Sans MS icon appears properly, but Niagaraphobia and Kelpotico Light appear in Greek thumbnails. I've even tried contacting the manufacturer of Niagaraphobia, and he doesn't know why the icon appears this way. As stated, the fonts are fine, but the icons appear in Greek.

As earlier mentioned, we tried to recreate your issue in our end and upon further checking, it seems that this can be caused by the Format under the Region and Language setting. If you don't mind, kindly send us a screenshot of your Region and Language setting.

These options have never been changed.
