The article on Ramsay Hunt syndrome in the ‘Images in Medicine’ section recently in March 2020 has drawn our attention to Ramsay Hunt syndrome which presents with vesicles in pinna with facial nerve palsy.1 We would like to highlight on the association of the Ramsay Hunt syndrome and hearing loss. Ramsay Hunt syndrome (RHS) was first described by James Ramsay Hunt, an American Neurologist on peripheral facial nerve palsy with vesicular rash on external ear and oral mucosa.2 It is also known as Herpes Zoster Oticus or Hunt’s syndrome.3 It is postulated that reactivation of Varicella Zoster virus (VZV) in the geniculate ganglion and its associated sensory nerves causes inflammation leading to compression of VII cranial nerve.4 VZV results from initial exposure to the virus which …
